The circulatory system is an organ system that moves nutrients, gases, and wastes to and from cells. It helps fight diseases and helps stabilize body temperature and pH to maintain homeostasis. This system may be seen strictly as a blood distribution network, but some consider the circulatory system as composed of the cardiovascular system, which distributes blood, and the lymphatic system, which distributes lymph. Humans, as well as other vertebrates, have a closed cardiovascular system (meaning that the blood never leaves the network of arteries, veins and capillaries) source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Circulatory_system
According to a study of the Department of Health (DOH), cardiovascular diseases which include stroke, are the leading causes of death in the country.
Cardiovascular disease is any of a number of specific diseases that affect the heart itself and/or the blood vessel system, especially the veins and arteries leading to and from the heart. Research on disease dimorphism suggests that women who suffer with cardiovascular disease usually suffer from forms that affect the blood vessels while men usually suffer from forms that affect the heart muscle itself.
Consequently, the Philippine General Hospital (PGH), one of the public health institutions known for its commitment to extending quality service to the needy, plans to put up a national stroke center that will provide care for the stroke victims. The center will also conduct related training and research on cardiovascular diseases, specially stroke.
